debar.JPG (12506 bytes)The Municipality of Belcista

The village Belcista, the seat of the newly established municipality with the same name, is located at a distance of about 25-km from Ohrid. This year, 1998, as 14 times before that, the village was the host of the traditional annual art colony. This colony is famous for being one of the few that take place in rural settlements.

Up to now, more than 150 artists from Macedonia and abroad have taken part in the Colony, giving birth to more than 300 works of art from various artistic fields. Each year, at the end of the event, their works are presented to the Macedonian public.

In 1979 the academic sculptor Tome Serafimoski, opened his gallery beneath Plaosnik (Imaret). He was educated at the School for Applied Arts in Split, and is a graduate of the Fine Arts Academy in Zagreb (Croatia) in the class of Antun Avgustincic. He is a member of MANU (The Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts).

The main motif of Serafimoski's works are human beings or, as one of his chroniclers wrote, his gallery is the place "where all outstanding people under this Macedonian sky are lined up one after the other".

Serafimoski is the author of a monumental sculpture of the Slavonic educators Ss. Cyril and Methodius located in Ohrid.

Although Naumoski does not posses any academic education, he has grown into one of the most important artists in Macedonia who has been welcomed in the most prominent galleries in Europe and worldwide.

For a long time Naumoski was treated as "naive artist". However, the verification of his painting is history because his name is present in all arts reviews in Macedonia and worldwide.

He reached his culmination with the cycle "Obsession With Nature".

For more than 25 years the artist Slavko Upevce is a chronicler of Ohrid and its surroundings. He is, above all, an artist of Ohrid in permanent quest for a new, unseen corner for depicting the town (the object) in a new dimension.

According to the words of a reviewer who knows his artistic expression, the works of Upevce denote "a distinctive artistic chronicle of contemporary times. This artist has been depicting Ohrid for a long time, by diligently recording all the features of the time in the body or the soul of the given symbols of the town".

simon.JPG (9700 bytes)Jone Simonce is about to celebrate a rare jubilee - 50 years of active engagement in the field of arts. Educated in his youth in the fields of art, icon painting, carving, and scenography, he has nevertheless remained devoted to the colours.

In his gallery the beauty of Ohrid can be seen. The architecture, the Lake, the fishnets, and the fishermen will remind you of the past, but also of the life of Ohrid as it is today. Simonce is a cult devotee. In one occasion he said: "I wish I could paint the entire history of the Ohrid rowboat. Mind you, we are talking about 300 years of tradition".
